NEIGHBORHOOD

HRAC takes being a good neighbor very seriously ... in fact, we are award winning.

After 19 years of service, HRAC remains committed to building community trust. Our agency continues in this commitment by educating our participants and neighbors.  Further, HRAC takes our role in the community seriously and makes substantial effort to familiarize ourselves with the neighborhood and by becoming a resource for people who are dedicated to the improvement of the area such as performing regular community clean-ups and engaging with community members that may not access HRAC's services.

HRAC is invested in the health and safety of the communities where we serve.  HRAC staff, participants, and volunteers provide neighborhood clean-ups. These clean-ups target the four-block radius of the HRAC location for litter removal and allow us to become more familiar with the neighborhood and its residents. HRAC also uses this time to ensure that our participants refrain from loitering after-hours.  Additionally, HRAC provides water and garbage bags to unhoused neighbors not associated with HRAC, as well as safe syringe disposal (where necessary.)  As a bonus, these clean ups promote positive community engagement opportunities for HRAC participants, staff, and our fellow community members during this lonely pandemic.

In addition, HRAC staff provide syringe clean up efforts in Denver.  Email us today to let us know about inappropriately discarded syringes in your area.  Alternatively, there are outdoor syringe disposal kiosks locations around Denver that you can access 24/7: Fire Station 4: 19th/Lawrence, Governor’s Park: 7th/Logan, Lincoln Park: 13th/Osage, & McIntosh Park outside the Webb Building.

In January 2018, Capitol Hill United Neighborhood association (the oldest and largest neighborhood association in Denver) awarded Harm Reduction Action Center with the Award for Creating a Safe Neighborhood.  It is our prized possession.  So yes, we are award winning neighbors.
